3 reasons to use Corten in your outdoor design
Still new on the landscape scene, Corten is increasingly present in outdoor design. This slightly modified steel, originally developed for the construction industry, has in recent years become a favourite of architects, as well as artists and designers.
Here are the 3 things that won us over and made us want to offer Corten cladding for our Fimurex gabion planters.
1 - Its high resistance to the weather
This is its number one advantage. As mentioned above, Corten was originally created for the construction industry. It is made to withstand all climates. Better still, the more changeable the weather (rain, sun, wind), the faster the oxidation process.
2 - Corten requires no maintenance
Corten needs no particular maintenance, and it is essential to give it time to protect itself. In the first few months, particles may come off and stain the gabion and its stones. Don’t panic: simply pressure-wash your gabion to remove the marks. It is, however, advisable to prevent water running off the Corten from coming into contact with more sensitive surfaces. It is also important to remove bird droppings and to avoid plants covering the Corten, as this can slow down the oxidation process. Once the process is complete, the steel will be unaffected by the weather. However, to stop the oxidation, applying a protective coat of varnish is recommended.
3 - A touch of originality in your garden
Choosing a gabion planter with a Corten surround will enhance your outdoor space! We have already mentioned how new it is; now let’s talk about its modern and, above all, unique look! Yes, because its oxidation process responds to the weather, your gabion and its Corten surround will look like no other. You can stop the oxidation (using a protective varnish), giving you shades ranging from yellow/orange to red/brown. It will bring a splash of colour to your garden and is sure to blend beautifully with the greenery of your outdoor space.
If you have been won over too, you will find all the sizes of our Corten surround and our planters under the DECO RANGE tab.
You will also find examples of outdoor designs in our COMPLETED PROJECTS.
