Tips for looking after and using your raised vegetable bed in autumn

When we think of autumn, we think of the end of the gardening season. Yet there is plenty to do at this time of year! Fortunately, our Fimurex team has looked into it for you and reveals a few autumn tips for making use of and looking after your Fimurex Gabion raised vegetable bed.

The end of the vegetables?
Not entirely! You can still make use of your raised vegetable bed by planting a few autumn vegetables such as lamb’s lettuce, winter lettuce (watch out for frost), spinach, parsley, radishes and turnips.

Decorative right down to the leaves
With ornamental plants, you can highlight the decorative appeal of your gabion raised bed while bringing colour to your garden! You could plant pansies, violets, primroses and heathers.

What if I do not want to use it until spring?
No problem! Simply prepare your raised vegetable bed for winter. Just because it is not in use does not mean it is not working. Mix in a little home-made compost and leave it to rest for the season. In spring, clear any plant residue from your raised bed and water it before topping up with suitable potting compost.
